With five days left before an eventual lockout, the New York Rangers are finishing some last minute shopping. Although the deal for Michael Del Zotto still isn't complete, the Rangers went ahead and took care of substitute defenseman Steve Eminger.
Eminger signed a one-year $750,000 deal to return to the Big Apple.
The 28-year-old played 46 games, including playoffs, for the Blueshirts last season, missing significant time due to injury. He's expected to open the year battling Stu Bickel for the team's sixth defenseman while Michael Sauer continues to recover from his concussion.
When Sauer returns, both Bickel and Eminger should be injury replacements behind Sauer, Ryan McDonagh, Dan Girardi, Marc Stall, Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman.
The signing adds more depth to New York's already stellar blue line.
