The NHL and NHLPA have finally reached the inevitable.
The two sides failed to agree to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement and have officially imposed a league-wide lockout. For the 700-plus NHLers, life has changed dramatically.
ESPN's Pierre LeBrun gives an exact list of what the rules are for all those locked out. If you don't understand what the lockout entails, we here at Rangers 101 highly encourage you to read through this.
This is the second lockout the league has gone through in the past eight years. It's also the third lockout in Gary Bettman's tenure as league commissioner. He had full support from the owners on this one, as they passed a unanimous vote on the lockout if a deal wasn't reached by the midnight deadline.
The last known proposals were far apart. The players were still looking to stay on the positive side of receiving 50 percent of hockey related revenue, while the owners wanted to give them just 47 percent (have have it dwindle down to 43 percent in the next few years).
Both sides wouldn't budge, so the lockout has gone into effect. Keep with Ranger 101 for all you need to know as we move forward with the lockout.
