The Connecticut Whale has started the preseason 0-2 after consecutive losses, 3-1 vs. the Albany Devils, then 2-1 vs. the Worcester Sharks.
Scott Stajcer, who the New York Rangers drafted in the fifth round (140th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, made his first professional start, recording 21 saves on 22 shot attempts. He played just half the game vs. Worcester and Ranger scouts were happy with his performance in the loss.
The Whale’s only other home preseason game is tomorrow, Oct. 7, as they and the Sharks rematch at the Koeppel Community Sports Center on the campus of Trinity College in Connecticut.. That game faces off at 2:00 PM.
Former Ranger Matt Gilroy may be suited up as he signed an AHL contract with the Whale on Friday.
Matt Gilroy has signed AHL contract with Whale. Prodigal free agent D presumably will sign with Rangers when lockout ends.

Stick with NY Rangers 101 as we follow the Whale while the NHL still has its players locked out.
