Rumors swirled during Saturday night's New York Rangers win over the Toronto Maple Leafs that the Blueshirts were going to bring aboard veteran center Jason Arnott on a one-year deal.

However, sources confirmed Sunday that the deal was no longer in place as Rangers team doctors didn't clear Arnott following his physical.

The reason for him not being cleared is still unknown.

The 38-year-old tallied 17 goals and 17 assists last season as a member of the St. Louis Blues, and reached a deal Saturday that would be worth a total of $1.6 million (pro-rated) with a base salary of $1.2 million.

Although the team is no longer in pursuit of Arnott, head coach John Tortorella said the team was having discussions about multiple players still on the open market. Don't be surprised to see the Rangers make a signing elsewhere on the free-agent market to round out its roster.
