Powe has zero points in eight games, like Rupp to date, but the center had scored six goals and posted seven assists in 82 games played last year.
Powe is expected to join the Rangers while Palmieri join the Connecticut Whale of the AHL.
Palmieri, who was selected 79th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, has 21 points in 40 games with Houston of the AHL this season. The 23-year-old has 25 total points in 87 career NHL games.
Rupp, a 6-foot-5, 230-pounder, has 53 goals and 94 points in 565 career games. He is a tough, tough customer who has recorded 78 career fights.
