This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, but NHL Player Safety has suspended Buffalo Sabres' Patrick Kaleta for five games for his hit in the third period on Brad Richards.
The Rangers were on the power play when Kaleta cross checked Richards from behind, sending him face-first into the half boards. Kaleta was issued a misconduct penalty, putting his team at a disadvantage — in a 5-on-3 penalty kill situation for more than a minute in a half.
The Rangers wouldn't need that long, however, scoring right off the draw on the 5-on-3, then again during the major penalty just seconds later.
Kaleta was quoted saying he "felt like a bag of garbage" for putting his team in the situation.
Richards was able to return to the game, only missing a shift, but it was still a very dangerous hit and Ranger fans should consider themselves lucky he wasn't seriously injured.
John Tortorella wasn't happy with the hit after the game, calling it a lack of respect.
